OS7174 Solar energy materials and solar cells
Last Revised: 2018-04-11
Course Objectives
The broad aim of this course is to provide the students with the knowledge that is required to fabricate semiconductors, including single crystal, polycrystalline and amorphous materials, and manufacture relevant solar cells.
Prerequisite
Textbook Semiconductor Physics &Devices, Semiconductor Material and Device Characterization
Topical Outline TThe suitable semiconductor materials, device physics, and fabrication technologies for solar cells will be presented. The guidelines for design of a solar cell will be explained. The students are expected to understand how the structural, optical, and electrical properties of the semiconductors important in the design of solar cells affect their spectral response, temperature sensitivity, resistive losses, current generation and open- circuit voltages, etc.
