OS7137 Introduction to Biomedical Imaging Last Revised: 2018-04-11
Course Objectives This course aims to provide students the basic knowledge in the field of biomedical imaging through the introduction of various imaging techniques. By understanding the applications in this interdisciplinary field, the students are expected to explore their interests in a different region.

Prerequisite

Textbook 1. A. Webb, Introduction to Biomedical Imaging, Wiley-Interscience (2003).
2. D. E. Chandler, R. W. Roberson, Bioimaging - Current Concepts in Light and Electron Microscopy, Jones and Bartlett (2009)
3. P. N. Prasad, Introduction to Biophotonics, Wiley-Interscience (2003).

Topical Outline This introductory course of biomedical imaging will cover the most important imaging modalities in projection radiography, x-ray computed tomography, nuclear medicine imaging, ultrasound imaging, magnetic resonance imaging, and optical imaging. For each modality, basic principles, instrumentation, image characteristics, clinical applications, limitations, and recent progress will be discussed.
