OS3011-A Experiment in Optics Last Revised: 2018-04-11
Course Objectives This class introduces students to equipment and techniques for setting up optical experiments and making measurements in the lab. The labs are set up to demonstrate some fundamentals of optics – geometric optics and wave optics.

Topical Outline 1. How to measure the speed of light?
2. Proof the laws of the reflection and of the refraction, and how to evaluation the refraction index of a material?
3. To measure the focal length and the magnification ratio of lens.
4. How to modulate the light power with the polarizers?
5. How to measure the track pitch or the groove spacing on a CD, DVD, or Blu-ray disk?
6. How to evaluate the curvature of a lens?
