Dop Course Outline
OS2017 Fundamental Optics and Geometrical Optics
Last Revised: 2020-10-05
Course Objectives
The students are expected to understand basic optics principle, and will be familiar with geometrical optics.
Prerequisite
Textbook Optics (5th Edition)
Eugene Hecht
ISBN-10: 1292096934
ISBN-13: 9781292096933
728 pages
Publisher: Pearson; 5 edition (Dec 05, 2016)
Topical Outline The course starts with optics ray characteristic and then to introduce the basic principle of geometrical optics. The final goal is to let student understand optical imaging. Therefore the professor will introduce the characteristics of major optical components, and then to introduce optical system and discuss imaging quality. The final period will be on optical aberrations. The students can learn how to design and analyze an optical imaging system.
The course will be conducted as below.
Ch.1. Background Introduction
Ch.2. Wave Motion
Ch.4. The Propagation of Light
Ch.5. Geometrical Optics
Ch.6. More on Geometrical Optics
