Biography


Dr. Yin-Jung Chang was born and raised in Hualien City, Taiwan, Republic of China. He received a Ph.D. in electrical engineering and computer science from Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, GA, USA in 2006.

From 1998 to 2000 he served in the R.O.C. Army as a platoon leader/communication officer in a mobilized infantry brigade in the southern part of Taiwan. From 2000 to 2002 he was a research engineer in Applied Electromagnetic Lab, Microelectronics and Information System Research Center at National Chiao-Tung University, Hsinchu, Taiwan, R.O.C. During his Ph.D. study, Dr. Chang worked on board-level optical interconnects covering both theoretical analyses based on rigorous electromagnetics and the development of an experimental prototype for 1-by-4 high-speed transmission at 10 Gb/s/channel. From May to August 2006, he was a summer intern at IBM T. J. Watson Research Center, Yorktown Heights, NY, USA, focusing on the optoelectronic packaging for the 160-Gb/s bidirectional parallel optical transceiver module in IBM/DARPA “Terabus” project. After a short postdoctoral research at Georgia Tech, Dr. Chang joined Portland Technology Development, Intel Corp. in Hillsboro, OR, USA, in early 2007 as a senior yield engineer working on the 22-nm technology node. In August 2008, he joined the Dept. of Optics and Photonics (DOP) at National Central University, Taiwan, R.O.C., and is currently a professor.

Dr. Chang was instrumental in the funding and development of the optoelectronic/photonics educational program at DOP. This includes the development of Semiconductor Physics in Optoelectronics, Physical Foundations of Semiconductor Optoelectronics, and Electromagnetic Principles of Photonics courses. His current research interests are integrated optics based on surface plasmon polaritons, nano-optics, nano-metallic optoelectronic physics and devices, photon energy conversion, electromagnetic problems in optics/photonics, and optical interconnects. Dr. Chang has been publishing his work mostly in top-notched optics/electrical engineering journals.
